Magnesium in Prevention and Therapy

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and plays a vital role in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including ATP metabolism, DNA and RNA synthesis, protein synthesis, and the regulation of muscle contraction, blood pressure, and nerve transmission. It has been shown to be effective in managing conditions such as eclampsia, preeclampsia, arrhythmia, severe asthma, and migraines. Additionally, magnesium may help reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome, improve insulin metabolism, and alleviate symptoms like dysmenorrhea and leg cramps during pregnancy. However, high dosages can be harmful, especially in individuals with kidney disease, so it should be used cautiously.

Natural sources of magnesium include green leafy vegetables like spinach and Swiss chard, as well as broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, nuts, legumes, and whole grains.
